NAHMMA Great Lakes Chapter 8 hr Household Hazardous Waste Training in partnership with W2RO

This North American Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) -developed training course provides essential health and safety education tailored for all levels of management within Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG) collection facilities, with a specialized focus on Lithium-Ion Battery safety handling and response measures. It is an 8-hour program designed to meet baseline safety requirements mandated by the OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act), ensuring regulatory compliance and equipping managers with critical knowledge for safe handling and operational oversight.

The course combines multimedia presentations with hands-on exercises, engaging participants across all management levels. Key topics include hazard recognition, personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response protocols, waste identification, and safe handling practices commonly encountered in HHW and VSQG environments. A significant component of the training is dedicated to Lithium-Ion Battery safety, covering identification of potential hazards, safe storage and transport methods, fire prevention, and effective response measures in the event of incidents involving these batteries. This focus ensures that managers are well-prepared to handle the unique risks associated with Lithium-Ion Batteries and to implement robust safety protocols.

Each participant receives a course materials on  Household Hazardous Waste/VSQG Collection Operations, which serves as a reference during training and in daily operations. This program is delivered in partnership with W2RO (Waste 2 Resource Ontario) and NAHMMA. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion, validating their expertise in hazardous materials management, with specialized skills in Lithium-Ion Battery safety, within HHW and VSQG facilities.
