OWMA is hosting a webinar on November 24, 2020 to explain how affected stakeholders will be impacted by the proposed regulation and proposed regulatory amendments to make producers responsible for operating the blue box programs. The webinar will also examine how the producer-run Blue Box system will work.

The proposed regulation aims to shift waste management responsibilities to producers for the waste generated from their products and packaging. The regulation promotes waste as a resource that can be recovered, reused, and reintegrated back into the economy.
Ontario is transitioning the current Blue Box program to a producer responsibility model. The new model means transitioning costs of the Blue Box program away from municipalities and making producers of products and packaging fully responsible for the waste they create.
