Solving Ontario's Landfill
Capacity Crisis
Collaborating for Sustainable and Best-in-Class EPR Programs
Continuing Red Tape Reduction to Ensure Ontario Remains Open for Business
Ontario is currently facing a crisis in landfill capacity and without immediate action we will run out of capacity within 10 years. The biggest obstacle to increasing capacity is Bill 197, which allows municipalities to veto developments outside of their boundary in an adjacent municipality
Working with service providers, Ontario has the opportunity to build sustainable and best-in-class EPR programs.
Workers in the waste management and recycling sectors provide an essential service to every community in Ontario, but they do not receive the same support as their counterparts in the skilled trades
Maximizing Resource and Energy Recovery to Strengthen Ontario's Economy
Unlocking the Industry by Working for Workers & Business in Ontario
Cumbersome approval processes for waste management and recycling infrastructure have left Ontario at a competitive disadvantage.
More than three quarters of Ontarians agree that the government should invest in technologies that could turn waste into energy according to polling. One of the many examples of energy from waste successes is the renewable natural gas that is used to power truck fleets, which help power our economy.

Member Highlight: TUQ4
Located in Nanticoke, Ontario, TUQ4 Inc. is a unique soil decontamination facility that manages all contaminated soil/sediment/rock/soil mixtures including hazardous, PCB and PFAS impacted material. Using proven/patented technologies, the entire soil matrix, including non-soil recyclables, reusables, chemicals, and trash/garbage, are decontaminated, and prepared for beneficial purpose use. Process waters are collected, treated, and reused. Post-process recyclables and waste are safely and securely managed by licensed third-party Canadian transporters and facilities.
Most contaminated soil & soil-like material are excavated and transported, often considerable distances, for non-sustainable landfill disposal. The excavation is backfilled by pit/quarry material further depleting natural resources. Driven by the “Four (4) Principles of Sustainability,” TUQ4’s objective is to re-brand “The Urban Quarry (TUQ)” soil a resource and decontaminating for beneficial purpose use when possible, supporting the Circular Economy.
