Toine Timmermans, Program Manager, Circular Economy in Food at Wageningen University & Research, to speak at CWRC

October 3 – The Canadian Waste to Resource Conference (CWRC) is proud to announce that Toine Timmermans (Holland), Program Manager, Circular Economy in Food at Wageningen University & Research, will speak at this year’s event, slated for October 25-26 at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, ON.

On Wednesday, October 25, opening day of the two-day CWRC, Timmermans will address attendees from 10:30-11:00 a.m. in the session titled, Private-Public Collaborations – A Successful Model to Fight Food Waste; Experiences from EU FUSIONS and REFRESH.

“We are thrilled to have a phenomenal group of highly-respected and influential people speaking at this year’s event,” said Michele Goulding, Conference Manager and the Ontario Waste Management Association’s Director of Finance and Member Services. “Toine’s expertise and experience in combating food waste is an important topic, one that will be of great interest to those attending the CWRC.”

In his professional career, Timmermans has worked over 15 years to support businesses and public organizations to contribute to more sustainable food chains and a responsible food system. As Program Manager, his main role is to connect people and organizations across the full supply chain to innovate and make progress to create an economic, social and environmental impact.

The goal of the project REFRESH is to contribute to halving food loss and food waste across the post-harvest supply chain, while also building a responsible and sustainable food consumption and production system within the EU, based on circular economy principles, and to prevent and reduce food waste and maximize the value from unavoidable food waste.

A central ambition of the REFRESH project is to develop and implement national

Framework for Action models, based on strategic agreements across all stages of the supply chain (backed by Governments), delivered through a collaborative effort and supported by evidence-based tools to allow targeted, cost-effective interventions.

Within REFRESH, different Framework for Action platforms have been set up in five countries: Germany, Hungary, Spain, The Netherlands and China, with different stages of development, ways of workings and ambitions.

The Dutch Taskforce Circular Economy in Food is a clear example of a well-functioning voluntary agreement among stakeholders, with business frontrunners in the lead, establishing an ecosystem for solutions where new connections are made to create impactful, scalable innovations.
